New roadmap for boosting family forest producers

FAO has published a roadmap for boosting small-scale and family forest producers. The roadmap was launched together with a publication on strengthening organisations.

  • The roadmap and the other policy paper were published by the Forest and Farm Facility, a partnership between FAO, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The goal of the papers is create a better policy environment and support small-scale forest and farm producer organisations.

Family forestry, community forestry and indigenous peoples can play a significant role in tackling deforestation, reducing poverty and increasing local livelihood. A prerequisite is that small producers are band together through producer organisations. This vital role is often overlooked in government policies and the publications aims at highlighting this important issue.
